[OSEN=한용섭 기자] LG Twins Jeong Joo-hyeon (33) has decided to retire at the end of this season and will start anew as a coach next year.

Joo-hyun Jeong joined LG in 2009 after graduating from Daegu High School. Until this year, he has played in 762 games for the first team, recording a .2337 batting average (392 hits in 1,653 at-bats), 18 home runs, 153 RBI, 260 runs, and 68 bases loaded. u steal

Joo-Hyun Jeong, who was included in the Korean Series record held last November, played as a defensive first baseman in the top of the 9th inning with a 15-3 lead in Game 4 of the Korean Series. Although I didn’t get a chance to bat, I also took part in the Korean Series.

Jeong Joo-hyun, who wiped away tears at the spot where LG won the Korea Series for the first time in 29 years, decided to retire after consulting with the club. At LG, where I worked for 15 years, I received a Korean Series championship ring and continued to wear the LG uniform as a coach.

General Manager Cha Myeong-seok recently mentioned Jeong Joo-hyun at a beer party held with LG fans to celebrate the collective victory. This is an answer to a question from a fan about Jung Joo-hyun’s position.

Director Cha said, “Jung Joo-hyun is retiring and starting as a leader. The position has not been decided yet, but Jung Joo-hyun said he wants to be a hitting coach. I want to become a batting coach without even thinking about my career batting average… “I’m thinking about becoming a base running coach or a defensive coach,” he quips.

In early December, Joo-Hyun Jeong shared her thoughts on her decision to retire and start over as a coach on her SNS. Joo-hyun Jeong said, “Hello, LG Twins fans. This is former LG Twins player Jeong Joo-hyun. “It’s a bit late to say hello,” he said, adding, “First of all, I’d like to say to my fans that I’m really grateful for all the interest and love they’ve given me over the past 15 years last I have decided to retire from active duty at the end of this season and begin the second chapter of my life as a leader. “It was a very difficult time to make the decision, but I made the decision only because I could continue to wear the LG Twins uniform instead of another team’s uniform,” he said of his retirement.

He continued, “For me, the LG Twins are that kind of thing. I was happy and honored to be able to play with the TWINS mark on my chest for 15 years, and I am very happy and grateful that I will be able to wear the TWINS mark on my chest in the future. “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the club officials for giving me this opportunity,” he said.

Joo-Hyun Jeong said, “I joined the LG Twins at the end of the dark period in 2009, and for 15 years until their first championship in 29 years in 2023, I met good teachers and managed to grow, meet a good team. , played baseball happily, met good seniors, learned a lot, and made good friends. We met and had fun playing baseball, met good teammates, and we were even able to win a championship. “I was so happy and it was an unforgettable memory,” he said looking back on the last 15 years.

Jeong Joo-hyun finally said, “Now, our main fans LG Twins. For me, regardless of grades, our LG Twins fans have always been on top! I really appreciate it and I really appreciate it and thank you again! I will salute you as a good leader in the future! Take care of your health in cold weather. “Thank you,” he said.

Joo-Hyun Jeong joined LG in the 2nd 5th round (36th overall) of the 2009 rookie draft. He and Oh Ji-hwan are close friends because of the reason they joined the team. Until this year, I played mainly as a backup.

Jung Joo-hyun has not been able to play in many games in the first team since his debut. In 2009, 6 games, 1 hit in 11 at-bats) 1 home run, 1 RBI, 2 runs, 2010, 8 games, 2 hits, 2 RBI, 1 stolen base, 8 games, 3 hits, 2 RBI, 6 runs, 2 stolen bases in 15 games, 2011, 18 games, 23 at-bats, 3 hits, 2 stolen bases, 2012, 18 games, 23 at-bats Recorded 4 hits, 1 RBI, 5 a run, and 4 stolen bases. When he couldn’t settle down in the first team, he tried to change his position from outfielder to outfielder.

In 2013, he played in 61 games and recorded a .217 batting average (18 hits in 83 at-bats), 15 RBIs, 21 runs, and 10 stolen bases. Possessing mobility, he also performed pinch runner duties.

He returned after completing military service in 2014-2015. In 99 games in 2016, Joo-Hyun Jeong had a .222 batting average (50 hits in 225 at-bats), 1 home run, 22 RBI, 30 runs, and 5 stolen bases, and appeared to have more opportunities to play , but in 2017, he went 0-for-8 in 15 games, had no hits, and only 1 stolen base.

2018-2020 was the peak of Jung Joo-hyun’s baseball life. Following Kang Seung-ho and Park Ji-gyu, Jung Joo-hyun got the third chance at the second base in early May in 2018. At the time, LG’s second base was the biggest concern.

Jung Joo-hyun, who was given the opportunity, showed a stable performance in offense and defense and took over the starting position. In 2018, he played in 115 games, recording a .261 batting average (79 hits in 303 at-bats), 6 home runs, 31 RBI, 48 runs, and 18 stolen bases, recording the best performance since his debut. For the first time, he played in more than 100 games in a season and had more than 300 plate appearances.

Joo-Hyun Jeong played as the starting second baseman until 2020. In 129 games in 2019, he recorded a .233 batting average, 87 hits in 376 at-bats, 2 home runs, 27 RBI, 53 runs, and 15 bases stolen. Before the 2020 season, LG recruited veteran Jeong Geun-woo in the second draft to reinforce the second baseman. Jeong Joo-hyun also won in a friendly competition with Jeong Geun-woo. In 134 games, he had a .247 batting average (81 hits in 328 at-bats), 4 home runs, 30 RBIs, 50 runs, and 8 stolen bases.

The position has narrowed again in the 2021 season. He played as the starting second baseman in the first half of the season, but his offensive ability was disappointing. LG acquired second baseman Seo Geon-chang via a trade with Kiwoom during the All-Star break in July. Jeong Ju-hyun remained in the second team mainly in the second half of the season. He finished the season with a .2338 batting average (43 hits in 181 at-bats), 3 home runs, 10 RBI, 26 runs, and 3 stolen bases in 73 games.

In the 2022 season, LG recruited a foreign hitter as a second baseman. He played second base with a foreign batsman and Seo Geon-chang, and Jeong Ju-hyun did not play a single game for the first team last year.

Coach Yeom Kyung-yeop, who took over as LG’s head coach before this season, used Chung Ju-hyun as a backup in the field from the start of the season. Jung Joo-hyun appeared in 89 games and played a good role as a backup with a .273 batting average (24 hits in 88 at-bats), 1 home run, 12 RBI, 17 runs, and 1 stolen base, and proudly wearing the Korean Series winner’s medal around his neck.
