The Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced today (18th) that as a result of a comprehensive investigation into illegal activities at construction sites under the direction of Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong, 270 cases have been confirmed in 82 construction work. sites across the country.

LH President Lee Han-joon reported the results of the accounting investigation to Minister Won, who accompanied President Yoon Seok-yeol on a tour of the United Arab Emirates as an economic delegation.

In terms of the type of illegal activity, forced recruitment was the most common with 51 cases, followed by forced payment of monthly wages for tower cranes with 48 cases.

31 cases of damage and having to pay full-time union wages were also confirmed.

LH said that in the case of the apartment building site in Area A, the reinforced concrete subcontractor stopped construction because it was difficult to afford the loss due to the forced recruitment of the construction union, the demand for a monthly wage for tower cranes, and the demand to reduce working hours, and as a result, the construction work was suspended for two months.

Nevertheless, the union explained that it demands the continuity of employment of union members and the payment of severance allowances during a construction stoppage.

On the flats construction site in Area B, two unions insisted on using their own construction equipment and blocked the entrance to the site, so the construction work was delayed for 15 days.

LH announced that it would take civil and criminal measures against the illegal acts confirmed this time, and continue with on-site inspections along with the operation of the reporting centre.

Specifically, regarding the Changwon Myeonggok area, where construction was halted due to the hiring of union members, forced use of equipment, and refusal to ship ready-mixed concrete, we requested a police investigation this week into business obstruction and enforcement, and filed a lawsuit for compensation next month
