Lim Do-heon, coach of the national volleyball team, wins with a strong serve… Heo Soo-bong is 100 points

“It looks like Turkiye will come up in the quarterfinals… We will prepare for ace Mirza”

Manager Lim Do-heon of the men’s volleyball team, who defeated Australia after a full set match, said, “I was able to win with a strong serve.”

Coach Lim scored a set score of 3-2 (23-25 25-23 25-18 22-25 15-13) against Australia in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup held at Jamsil Students’ Gymnasium in Seoul on the 28th. After winning, he said, “We prepared a strong serve to prevent Australia, which has a good fast attack.

Heo Su-bong led the team to victory by scoring the most points of 33 points, the most for both teams, including 4 points only as a serve.

Manager Lim Do-heon said, “I want to give 100 points to Heo Soo-bong. He played a decisive role by handling the difficult double toss, the biggest weakness of the national team.”

The team went through a lot of crises that day.

In the first set, which determines the atmosphere of the game, after a close match, they lost 23-25 and lost the flow.

When asked what advice he gave to players after finishing the first set, coach Lim Do-heon said, “He said that if we play at our own pace, we can win.”

With this victory, Korea succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals of the Volleyball Challenger Cup, continuing their hopes of participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The winning team of this tournament will receive a spot in the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL), and by accumulating a lot of ranking points in the VNL, they can acquire the Olympic spot given to the top team in the FIVB world ranking.

In the Paris Olympics, the host country France and the six teams that have passed the Olympic qualifiers and the five teams with the highest world rankings will participate.

In reality, it is difficult for Korea to pass the Olympic qualifiers, so it should try to advance to the Olympics by raising the world rankings.

Manager Lim Do-heon said, “There is a high possibility that Turkiye will come up in the semi-finals.” He said, “Turquije’s ace Ragumdjiza Mirza is responsible for about half of the attack, and we will prepare well to prevent him.”

Korea, who reached the semi-finals, will fight for the winner of the Turkiye-Qatar match at the same place on the 30th.
