Lindor’s Toe Injury Healing Quickly; Mets Optimistic

New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is recovering well from a broken toe and could rejoin the lineup soon, possibly this weekend. Manager Carlos mendoza said Lindor has been running and participating in drills.
Lindor sustained the fracture on his right pinky toe Wednesday after being hit by a pitch from Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin. He sat out Thursday’s game.
Mendoza expressed optimism about Lindor’s progress. “I feel a little bit better today than how I felt yesterday,” Mendoza said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the lineup [Saturday] or the next day.”
Ronny Mauricio filled Lindor’s position at shortstop in Friday’s game against the colorado Rockies, with brandon Nimmo taking the leadoff spot.
Lindor is having a solid season, hitting .279 with 14 home runs and 36 RBIs. Last season, he finished second in the NL MVP voting behind Shohei Ohtani.
