CHERBOURG, France (May 5, 2025) — The ⁢Holland‍ America Line’s stea ⁤made its first-ever stop in Cherbourg, ​France, on Saturday, May ‍3, as part of a four-month-plus “Pole‍ to Pole” cruise that began Jan. ⁣25 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The voyage, which includes destinations from Antarctica to Greenland, marks the start of⁤ the⁤ European leg of the journey.

Four-Month Voyage Spans Continents

The⁣ “Pole to Pole” cruise has carried 1,054 ‍passengers from Fort Lauderdale through the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and along ⁤the western coast of South America, ​including stops in Peru, Chile,⁤ and Argentina. The ship rounded Cape Horn and visited Ushuaia and Antarctica before returning to⁣ Argentina and Brazil. After crossing‍ the Atlantic,the stea stopped at cape Verde,Senegal,and the Canary Islands before reaching⁤ Brest,France,on May 2. Following Cherbourg, the ship sailed to Zeebrugge, Belgium.

The‌ itinerary continues ⁤with stops in ⁢the Netherlands,‍ Scotland, and Norway, followed by Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. the stea is ​scheduled‍ to return to Fort lauderdale on June 7.

The stea, commissioned in⁢ October⁢ 1999, is one of four R-class liners originally⁢ ordered by​ Holland America Line, which was acquired by Carnival Corp. in 1989.Built by Italian ‌manufacturer Fincantieri, the ship measures 237 meters in length and​ 32 meters in width,⁤ with a gross ​tonnage of just over 61,000 tons. A crew of 647 serves more than 1,400 passengers.
