Liverpool still expect Alexander sobs to join Anfield. Sobs reportedly have agreed to join Liverpool but Newcastle United hold it. The offer worth 120 million euros for sobs from Liverpool was rejected outright by The Magpies.

But the former Arsenal player who is now a pundit, Paul Merson, assessed that Liverpool should not make a priority transfer priority for now. He said Liverpool needed more new center backs than sobs.

“If I am Liverpool, I will look for more central defender than sobs. That must be a priority slot, the main central defender options are Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez,” Merson wrote in the column on Sky Sport.

“Compare with the front lines, the slot has quite a lot of options to attack without the need for sobs. Ekitice performed very well against Crystal Palace. Wirtz is also a top player. Everyone will be happy to see him playing this season. Add Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, and there are more than enough options there.

“Why do they have to expect to sobs when obviously they really need a defender? The arrival of sobs will actually cause more problems, because all attackers cannot play all,” he added.
