Mexican Baseball League Celebrates Centenary, Lauds Oaxaca’s Baseball Patron
OAXACA, mexico – The Mexican Baseball League (LMB) is celebrating its centenary in 2025 with a series of activities throughout the country. During a recent visit to oaxaca, LMB President Horacio de la Vega Flores highlighted the important contributions of Alfredo Harp Helú to the sport, particularly his support for the Oaxaca Warriors.
Harp Helú’s Impact on Mexican Baseball
De la Vega Flores praised harp Helú’s investment in Mexican baseball, emphasizing his role in strengthening the sport’s development. He also congratulated the Oaxaca Warriors institution on the construction of their new stadium.
“I want to congratulate Don Alfredo Harp Helú,” de la Vega said. “He is the great patron of mexican baseball. I think no one has invested so much in the baseball of our country as he has.”
Inaugural Series and Passion for Baseball in Oaxaca
De la Vega, a former world champion in modern pentathlon and two-time Olympian, attended the inaugural series of the 2025 season in Oaxaca. He noted his presence was to support harp Helú, his son Santiago Harp, and the Warriors’ leadership.
He also commented on the enthusiasm for baseball in Oaxaca, stating, “Very happy and grateful to Don Alfredo and the directive who have done a great job; it is a place that he likes and enjoy baseball. I have already been here in the last games of the championship series, wich have been very vibrant.”
De la Vega offered encouragement to the fans: “I tell the fans who come to support his team,which is always to fight the same or more than last year. Surely it will be a great season for the warriors and we wish them much success.”
LMB Centenary Activities
The 2025 LMB season marks the league’s 100th anniversary,and de la Vega outlined several special events planned throughout Mexico.
- All-Star Game: The Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico City will host the All-star Game on June 28.
- Home Run Derby: A Home Run derby will be held in conjunction with the Professional Women’s Softball League, which is promoted by the LMB.
- Panini Album: A commemorative Panini album celebrating the LMB’s centenary will be released.
- photographic exhibition: A photographic exhibition will be displayed on Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City within the next few weeks.
- Commemorative souvenirs: Special souvenirs will be launched to mark the occasion.
- Development League: A future development league is planned for launch in October or november.
- Mexican National Team: Matches featuring the Mexican National Team are scheduled for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Competitive Level on the rise
De la Vega emphasized the ongoing collaboration with club owners to further develop baseball in Mexico.
“I feel happy, motivated and grateful to the support of all the owners of the League, who have allowed us to get here making concrete decisions for the progress of Mexican baseball,” he said.
He also noted the increasing competitive level within the league, driven by the recruitment of talented players by each team.
“It’s a season full of great ‘horses,’” de la Vega said. “All teams have had great hiring. Every time I talk with some of the owners they tell me that they see another rival more difficult, so that is pleased. It is indeed a very competitive league, full of great talents and we want the best of successes to all and especially the Warriors of Oaxaca.”
