Locals amused as owner lowers cow by crane for slaughter: Video from Pakistan goes viral

Karachi: Despite the existence of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1890), animal cruelty is still rampant in Pakistan. In a video that has gone viral on social media, a cow can be seen being lifted from the top of a tall building by a crane. In the video, people gathered to see this sight.

According to Reuters, the cows are tied to a crane and lowered from a height of 40 feet. The cow belongs to Syed Ijaz Ahmed. Ahmed rears cows on the roof of his building. Every year ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, cows are unloaded by cranes and sold for slaughter, according to media reports. According to media reports, Ahmed has continued this practice for the past 18 years.

Cows being brought down by cranes are a regular sight in Pakistan. In the viral video, a large number of children and adults have gathered in the area to witness the spectacle. Mohammad Hansala, a resident of the area, told the media that this is an annual sight in the area. ‘It’s fun to see the animals brought down. It’s a different kind of enjoyment. Last year I came to see with my friends. But this time I came alone,” said Muhammad Hansala as he excitedly watched the cows being taken out of the building by a crane.

Mohammad Hansala says that instead of five or six cows in previous years, only two cows were brought down this year. When put down in this way, cows are stressed not only by fear of height, but also by noise from around.

In 2020, a video went viral of a cow that lost its balance while being lifted by a crane and fell to its death as bystanders watched. The video was reported to be from Karachi, Pakistan.
