London: Joe Root’s glittering form is a big headache for Team India in the Test series against England. Route scored 386 runs in four innings with two centuries. India won at Lord’s with a quick return to the route. Former English spinner Monty Panesar is advising Kohli to close the route easily.
Panesar says skipper Virat Kohli should invite pacers Jaspreet Bumra and Mohammad Siraj to bowl as soon as they reach the root crease. ‘If you hit the fifth stump on the off side, you can get out of the way. In the second inning at Lord’s, Bumrah executed Kohli’s plan beautifully. Kohli has to plan again against the route. Do not throw short pitch balls against him as he will play well.
Kohli should call Bumra as soon as the route reaches the crease. Bumrah and Siraj can put pressure on the batsman. That’s what Root’s wicket did in the second innings at Lord’s. You have to put pressure on the root and force him to change his position. Root is a player who likes to bat in good rhythm. Root will change its position and game plan if the flow of the game is lost. That is what India needs. That way, India can get rid of the England captain early, ”Panesar told the Times of India.
