Kamurasi descends from a prominent royal family. His grandfather, King George Rukidi III, welcomed the late Queen Elizabeth during her 1954 visit to Uganda.

An unusual scheduling conflict has added a logistical twist to the royal transition. Kamurasi could miss the funeral of King Oyo because the service clashes with a cup fixture involving his football club.
