Two individuals are safe after their private plane crashed into Long island Sound on Sunday. The Piper PA-32 went down near Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The FAA reported that the plane crashed at approximately 10:30 a.m. The Coast Guard responded, dispatching a 45-foot boat after air traffic control reported the downed aircraft near the Thimble Islands, close to Branford, Connecticut. The plane crash prompted a swift response.
The Coast Guard confirmed the successful rescue. “The two persons onboard the aircraft were rescued and in stable condition,” the agency saeid in a statement.
After the rescue operation, emergency medical personnel met the plane’s occupants at Stony Creek pier in Branford, the Coast Guard said.
