Perth fans of Lorde may be concerned as the New Zealand singer is currently battling illness while continuing her -launched “Ultrasound” world tour of Australia and New Zealand. The 29-year-old performer delivered a health update from her hotel bed on evening, following back-to-back shows in Melbourne.
Lorde is scheduled to conclude the Australian and New Zealand leg of the tour at RAC Arena in Perth on night. However, the demanding schedule – eight shows in a fortnight – appears to be taking a toll. She addressed the physical strain in a series of candid social media posts, acknowledging she’s “a little sick in bed.”
Despite feeling unwell, Lorde expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic reception she’s received. “I just wanted to say how insane these shows have been the last two nights in Melbourne,” she told fans. “I was like, it’s just crazy. I don’t have the language to describe what it’s like being part of this with you, and so sometimes I don’t talk about it, but just know like that I’m having the greatest time ever, and I’m so grateful to you all for just showing up.”
This isn’t the first time health concerns have surfaced during the “Ultrasound” tour. Lorde revealed she’s become accustomed to feeling under the weather, particularly while performing her fourth studio album, “Virgin.” She jokingly attributed recurring illness to the “David walk” – her practice of entering the crowd during her performance of the song “David,” a moment that involves close contact with fans.
“During Ultrasound I get sick every two weeks… I think it’s because of the ‘David walk’,” she shared. Despite the physical challenges, she affirmed, “Do I have regrets? No I do not!”
The singer’s recent bout of illness echoes broader health struggles she’s publicly discussed. Reports from , detailed Lorde’s openness about dealing with both physical and mental health issues. She described experiencing inflammation, gut problems, and skin issues, and revealed she had been sick “a dozen of times.”
In a more recent update, Lorde disclosed that she stopped taking medication she had been on for over a decade less than a week prior to becoming ill again. She has been actively trying to listen to her body, a skill she admits she’s historically struggled with. “I realized earlier this year that listening to my body is hard for me, it’s something I never really learned how to do,” she explained. “I’ve been trying to teach myself that this year, but it’s been hard actually, pretty confronting, has made me fully aware of all the times I ignored it or didn’t give it what it needed.”
Beyond the physical toll of touring, Lorde has also been navigating personal challenges, including heartbreak. She acknowledged the emotional pain, stating, “I’m living with heartbreak again. It’s different but the same. I ache all the time, I forget why and then remember.” However, she emphasized a shift in perspective, recognizing the value in acknowledging and moving with pain rather than suppressing it.
Despite her health concerns, Lorde is pressing forward with the tour. She’s also been mindful of staying hydrated, particularly during the Australian summer. “Summer Ultrasound is different, immediate suck down of fluids necessary,” she noted.
Lorde will be supported by American singer and rapper Kevin Abstract at the Perth show. Doors at RAC Arena are scheduled to open at , with Kevin Abstract taking the stage at , followed by Lorde at .
The situation highlights the intense demands placed on touring musicians and the importance of prioritizing health and well-being amidst rigorous schedules. Lorde’s willingness to share her struggles offers a rare glimpse behind the curtain of a high-profile tour, resonating with fans and sparking a conversation about the realities of life on the road.
