Tens of thousands of Buddhist believers march with colorful lanterns in hand, led by large solemn lanterns emitting yellow light.

Even in inclement and rainy weather, citizens wearing raincoats came out to see the lotus lanterns decorating the streets.

The Lotus Lantern Festival has been held for over a thousand years to commemorate the birth of Buddha.

In 2020 it was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

This year, with the theme “Peace of Mind, Buddha’s World,” more than 50,000 Buddhist believers decorated colorful lotus lanterns from Heunginjimun in Seoul to Jogyesa Temple.

After the lantern procession, citizens gathered in Bosingak to enjoy Ganggangsullae and Daedongnori.

Today, in front of Jogyesa Temple, the “Traditional Culture Square” will be held, where you can experience various types of Buddhism.

Additionally, comedian Yoon Seong-ho, who works as “Monk Newjin”, will perform as a DJ.

From 9am to midnight today, vehicular traffic from the nearby Anguk intersection to Jonggak intersection will be completely blocked and 73 bus routes passing through the area will be diverted.
