Spanish Women Defrauded of Over 10 Million‍ Yuan in ​Love Scam

Spanish police have arrested five suspects accused of impersonating Hollywood star ⁢Brad Pitt via the internet and messaging software WhatsApp to defraud two women of 320,000 euros (approximately 11.73 million yuan).

The suspects contacted the women ‌through ⁣Brad Pitt’s fan page, leading them to‍ believe‍ they⁣ had a romantic relationship⁤ with the actor. The fraud group members pretended to⁤ be Brad Pitt and offered to invest in​ various non-existent⁤ projects for the ‍female victims.

A woman​ from the southern region of Andalusia was defrauded of 175,000 euros (approximately 6.32 million yuan), ⁣while another woman from the‌ Basque Country ⁣lost 150,000 euros (approximately 5.41 million yuan).

According to the police, the⁢ internet criminals ​studied ‍the women’s social networks and conducted a psychological analysis to identify vulnerable targets. The two women, who were single and experiencing depression, were⁢ deceived into believing⁤ they ⁤were chatting with Brad Pitt himself ⁤via WhatsApp.

The police launched an operation to raid the homes of the five suspects, seizing several mobile phones, debit cards, two computers, and a diary containing expressions used to deceive the victims. Authorities have recovered 85,000 euros from⁢ the two women who were defrauded.

The arrest of the five suspects, including the leader of the suspected ​organization, ‍marks a significant step in combating online love scams. The case ⁣highlights the importance of being cautious when interacting with strangers online and the need for vigilance in protecting oneself from potential scams.
