Lydia Ko Continues Her Dreamlike Streak on the Korean Stage
The KLPGA Hana Financial Championship Opens Today, with Lydia Ko as a Strong Contender for the Championship
Lydia Ko, who is in her ‘second best’, said about her recent achievements, “It’s like a fairy tale.” She has won three times out of the last four competitions she took part in, including a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and the AIG Women’s Open.
Lydia Ko met the requirements to join the LPGA Hall of Fame by winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in August. She also reached the top of the AIG Women’s Open, a major tournament held in St. Andrews, Scotland, England, known as the mecca of golf.
The secret to her recent good performance has been referred to as adapting to fading fields. She said, “In the past, I tried to use tow fields to gain distance. However, lately I’ve been practicing high accuracy fades consistently even if I lose some distance, and this submission has been coming out stable, producing good results.”
Lydia Ko is considered the leading candidate to win this competition, which carries a prize of 270 million. She tees off at 10:44 am on the 26th along with Park Hyun-kyung and Lee Ye-won, who share the KLPGA Tour wins lead.
A large number of players playing on the LPGA tour, including Kim Hyo-joo, Lee Min-ji, and Patty Tawatanakat, will participate in this tournament. On KLPGA Tour, Park Ji-young, Park Hyun-kyung, Lee Ye-won, and Bae So-hyun compete to win their fourth win of the season.
Lee Da-yeon, the defending champion, won last year’s competition at the same venue, beating Lee Min-ji and Tawatanakit in a close match that went to the third overtime. Lee Hyo-song and Oh Soo-min are also participating in the tournament.
