As Madeleine’s disappearance, authorities in Germany, Portugal, and the United Kingdom have conducted numerous searches. The most recent search took place near Lagos, Portugal, in June 2024.[

In 2023, investigators searched the area around the Arade Reserve Dam, approximately 30 miles from Praia da luz. Brueckner had spent time in the area between 2000 and 2017 and possessed photographs and videos taken near the reservoir.
In October 2023, a German court acquitted Brueckner of unrelated sexual offenses alleged to have occurred in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.
Financial Commitment to the Investigation
The Metropolitan Police’s investigation, codenamed Operation Grange, has cost over £13.2 million (€15.1 million) as 2011. An additional £108,000 (€124,000) was approved by the Government in April 2024.[
