Updated June 4, 2025
The Community of Madrid, under President Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is set to launch a new aid program aimed at bolstering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region. the initiative will provide up to €140,000 to eligible businesses, with the possibility of reaching €150,000 for those located in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 residents.
Ayuso unveiled the details of the program at the South Summit Madrid 2025, a major innovation fair. The initiative, slated to begin in 2026, will be backed by a €5 million investment.
To qualify for the aid, SMEs must have fewer than 50 employees, be at least three years old, and present a thorough business expansion plan. The goal, according to Ayuso, is to help these businesses transition into medium-sized companies, fostering job creation and innovation.
“We are going to implement this line of aid… to take that step and can already become a medium -sized company and from there to consolidate and therefore give benefits, prosperity, jobs and innovation to all,” Ayuso said.
The program seeks to address common challenges faced by SMEs during their consolidation phase, such as limited access to financing for digitalization, difficulties in attracting specialized talent, and the need to adapt to evolving market conditions.
The aid can cover up to 50% of the total investment, enabling SMEs to continue generating employment and wealth. Madrid currently boasts 437,396 self-employed individuals, a 1.7% increase year-over-year, marking the second-highest figure in the region’s history.
What’s next
The Community of Madrid plans to release further details on the application process and eligibility criteria for the SME aid program in late 2025, ahead of its launch in 2026.
