Fiji TV has completed a broadcast infrastructure upgrade with systems integrator Magna Systems, replacing legacy editing and production equipment to support a transition to high-definition workflows, according to reporting from technology publication Content + Technology.

The systems integration project introduces shared storage, synchronization, and long-term archiving tools designed to eliminate manual file transfers across the broadcaster’s facilities in Suva. According to Content + Technology and supporting coverage from Magna Systems, Fiji TV operates two free-to-air channels, Fiji One and Na Lololo, delivering news, sports, current affairs, and cultural programming to viewers across Fiji and the Pacific.

Addressing Ingest and Playout Bottlenecks with Shared Storage

Before the infrastructure refresh, editorial workflows relied heavily on producers physically moving media on USB drives and portable hard disks between individual Mac workstations. According to Magna Systems, this physical transport method created significant bottlenecks, slowing down daily news production and complicating collaborative editing tasks for the broadcaster.

To resolve these delays, the project deployed an EditShare shared storage and media management platform at the center of the facility. According to Magna Systems, the platform connects all Mac workstations, allowing multiple production teams to simultaneously access projects, share media assets, and collaborate on time-sensitive broadcasts without shuttling physical drives around the building.

This project has changed how we work. Before, our teams were spending more time moving drives between machines than actually editing. The new EditShare workflow means everyone can access the same projects, share ideas and get programmes to air faster.

Upgrading Facility Timing and Long-Term Archiving

Beyond day-to-day editing constraints, engineering assessments revealed critical vulnerabilities in the facility’s master timing systems. When Magna Systems engineers arrived on site, the Sync Pulse Generator providing timing references for the broadcast plant was running entirely on a backup unit, according to verified reporting from Magna Systems.

The integration team installed a new Leader synchronization system configured with network redundancy to secure reliable timing across the facility from ingest through to playout. Additionally, the project incorporated Disk Archive technology to handle long-term content preservation, providing online storage for completed productions and archival material that can be quickly retrieved for future broadcasts.

The stability of the new Leader sync system gives us confidence we simply didn’t have before. For our viewers, that means better-quality content, delivered more reliably. Magna understood our challenges from day one and delivered a solution that fits Fiji TV perfectly.

Engineering Oversight and Operational Continuity

The technical refresh extended beyond simple equipment procurement. According to Content + Technology, Magna Systems guided the broadcaster through every phase of the overhaul, starting with initial site assessments and fault diagnosis through to custom solution design, installation, commissioning, and final handover.

By pairing the new shared storage ecosystem with enhanced facility monitoring tools, technical staff now possess improved visibility over the entire signal chain. According to Magna Systems, this capability allows engineers to spot and resolve operational issues far earlier than the previous infrastructure allowed, securing uninterrupted broadcasting for Fiji TV’s audiences.
