Mainz, Germany – Seeking to break a winless streak,⁢ Mainz⁤ 05 shifted gears early in teh ‍week, ⁤trading their usual training ground for a kart racing outing on Tuesday.the team engaged in friendly competition ⁣before sharing a meal near the city gates. Goalkeeper Robin Zentner emphasized the importance of the ⁢change of pace. “We have a‍ long week ahead with the game against Frankfurt on‍ Sunday evening, and it was a good fit to be somewhere else with the head, but still together,” Zentner ‍said, noting the “stunning change.”

Sharpening Focus on Set Pieces

Though, the ⁢lightheartedness ⁤was short-lived.By Wednesday, the⁢ team‍ was back on the⁢ training pitch, ⁣facing intense drills in unseasonably warm weather. The goalkeepers, in particular, ⁤where kept busy.

Acknowledging the team’s ‍struggles with‍ set pieces, Zentner stated, “We definitely have to work on our defensive and offensive standards.” He added,‍ “We have conceded too much at the back and have scored⁤ too few goals over the entire ‍season. We know that Frankfurt is very ⁢strong, but will be well prepared for what is coming.”

The⁤ training session heavily emphasized ⁣defending and executing corner kicks and free kicks from the midfield. “They are moments when we have ⁣to be even more present ⁤and awake on the ‍pitch,” Zentner asserted.

Recent ⁣matches have highlighted this weakness, with both VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich scoring against mainz 05 from corner kicks. Conversely, Mainz 05 has struggled to capitalize on their own set-piece opportunities throughout the season.

Balancing Attack and ⁤Patience

Despite acknowledging Frankfurt’s potent attack, Zentner expressed confidence in the team’s ability⁢ to perform at home in the Mewa Arena. “it is indeed a narrow line. We ⁢wont to set accents. simultaneously occurring, it will be high ‍and patient as we certainly know that we will get our opportunities, and our fans will be behind us.”
