“Make America Go Away” Caps Symbolize Defiance of Trump’s greenland Pursuit
Red baseball caps parodying Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan have become a visible symbol of resistance in Denmark and greenland following the U.S. president’s repeated interest in acquiring the autonomous territory. The caps, reading “Make America Go Away,” are gaining traction on social media and at protests, including a weekend demonstration in Copenhagen.
European governments are bolstering support for Denmark and Greenland, emphasizing the importance of defending Arctic regions and warning that Trump’s threats to Greenland destabilize western security. Diplomats across Europe are holding crisis talks to address the situation.

The hats were created by Jesper Rabe Tonnesen, owner of a vintage clothing store in Copenhagen. Initial sales in 2024 were slow, but demand surged after the Trump governance intensified its rhetoric regarding Greenland. Tonnesen has since ordered “several thousand” more.
“When a delegation from America went up to Greenland, we started to realize this probably wasn’t a joke – it’s not reality TV, it’s actually reality,” Tonnesen said. “So I said, ‘OK, what can I do?’ Can I communicate in a funny way with a good message and unite the Danes to show that Danish people support the people of Greenland?”
Tonnesen’s original design included a play on words: “Nu det NUUK!” – a twist on the Danish phrase “Nu det nok,” meaning “Now it’s enough,” substituting Nuuk, Greenland’s capital.
protesters at a Saturday rally in Copenhagen waved Danish and Greenlandic flags and carried signs mocking U.S. claims to the territory. Signs read “No Means No” and ”Make America Smart Again.”
“I want to show my support to Greenland and also show that I don’t like the president of the United States,” said copenhagen resident Lars Hermansen, wearing one of the caps.
Kristian Boye, another protester, described the gathering as a lighthearted but serious expression of solidarity. “I’m here to support the Greenlanders, who are going through a very hard time right now,” he said. “They are being threatened with having their country invaded. I think it’s totally unacceptable.”
