New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his state visit to the Maldives, a trip marked by strong affirmations of the deep-rooted partnership between India and the island nation. During his visit, PM Modi engaged with Maldivian leadership and the Indian diaspora, underscoring the shared values, cultural exchanges, and mutual respect that form the bedrock of thier bilateral relationship.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to supporting the aspirations of the Maldivian people and collaborating for the betterment of the planet. He emphasized that the India-Maldives partnership is not merely a diplomatic arrangement but a bond built on a long history of cultural and economic exchanges, further strengthened by robust people-to-people ties.
“India and the Maldives share a deep-rooted partnership built on mutual respect, shared values and a long history of cultural and economic exchanges,” PM Modi stated. “our relationship continues to grow, shaped by people-to-people ties and cooperation in various sectors. India remains committed to supporting the aspirations of the Maldivian people and to working together for the betterment of our planet.”
Indian Diaspora: A Bridge Between Nations
A important aspect of PM Modi’s visit was his interaction with the Indian diaspora in the Maldives. He lauded the community for their commendable contributions to the Maldives’ progress while maintaining a strong connection to their Indian roots.
“Interacted with the Indian community in the Maldives,” PM Modi shared.”It is commendable how they are contributing to Maldives’ progress and at the same time remain connected to their roots in India. The Indian diaspora continues to be one of the strongest bridges between India and the world. We are very proud of our diaspora.”
The Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the Indian community’s role as a key pillar in the enduring India-Maldives friendship. “PM Narendra Modi interacted with the members of the Indian community in Maldives,” Jaiswal posted on X. “PM appreciated their contributions in building upon the strong and vibrant people to people ties between India-Maldives. Historic Independence Day Celebrations
A historic moment during the visit was Prime Minister Modi’s attendance as the ’Guest of Honor’ at the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations, held at the Republic Square in Male.This participation underscored the importance of the bilateral relationship and India’s consistent support for the island nation.
“A historic moment in the India-Maldives bilateral relationship,” Jaiswal remarked on X. “PM Narendra Modi attended the 60th anniversary of Independence Day celebrations of Maldives at the Republic Square in Male, today, as the ‘Guest of Honour’.”
Jaiswal further emphasized India’s role as a reliable partner,stating,”India has established itself as a time-tested partner of Maldives over the years and continues to be the ‘First Responder’ for Maldives in keeping with its ’neighbourhood First’ and ‘MAHASAGAR’ policies.”
Concluding Visit and Focus on Domestic development
The state visit to the Maldives was described as “very fruitful & productive” by Jaiswal. Following his departure from the island nation,Prime Minister modi arrived in Tamil Nadu. Later in the evening, he inaugurated, dedicated, and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹4,800 crore at a public event in Tuticorin, demonstrating a continued focus on domestic progress and development.
