Mali Takes Center Stage: President Goïta Shares Nation’s Success Story at FOCAC Summit
Mali Reaffirms Commitment to Deepen Cooperation Relations with China
President of the Transition, Colonel Assimi Goïta, spoke during a high-level panel on governance, reaffirming Mali’s commitment to deepen cooperation relations with China.
The relations between Mali and China are based on unchanging principles of respect, equality, and mutual benefits. Colonel Assimi Goïta welcomed the sincerity and stability of these relations, built on respect for the sovereignty of each person and the lack of interference in internal affairs.
The Head of State noted that true governance can only be achieved in a framework where the authorities and the people fully exercise their sovereignty, without external interference. Governance in Mali is guided by three principles: respect for the sovereignty of the State, respect for the sovereign choices of the people, and protection of the interests of the people.
Challenges and Opportunities
President Goïta highlighted the challenges faced by Mali, including security and economic challenges imposed from abroad. He expressed gratitude to sincere partners, including China, for their essential support in the fight against terrorism and its accomplices.
The Confederation of Sahel States (AES) is a bold and coordinated response by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to the security challenges and development demands pressing on the region.
Modernization and Reforms
The Head of State shared the experience and good practices recorded by Mali as part of the paths to modernization. This modernization is a natural and positive result of reforms, when these are made considering respect for sovereignty, essential needs, and the interests of the populations.
Important measures were taken in various areas of public life, especially political and electoral governance, when revising the electoral law. Governance reform also aims to improve economic governance, which means re-reading texts related to extractive industries, with the intention of better managing natural resources.
A program to digitize the administration was launched, prioritizing transparency in procedures, reducing costs, but above all citizens’ rights. Bold and profound reforms were undertaken, responding to the legitimate aspirations expressed by the people during the National Conference on Rehabilitation and the Inter-Malian Dialogue.
A New Constitution
The adoption of Mali’s new Constitution in June 2023 is a symbol of the country’s commitment to building a modern, resilient state that listens to its people. These reforms are based on the reaffirmation of Mali’s sovereignty, supported by the unwavering commitment of the Armed Forces, which ensures complete and effective control of the national territory.
