Attempted Child Abduction Foiled by Locals in Perumbavoor

Kochi:

In a commendable act of vigilance, locals in Perumbavoor successfully thwarted an attempted kidnapping of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl. The incident took place in the Vengola Punur area, where Simachal Bisho, hailing from Odisha, had targeted the innocent child. It happened while she was joyfully playing with her siblings.

The incident unfolded around 2:30 pm on Monday when the accused, in an audacious move, tried to abduct the child. However, the quick thinking of the other children, who raised an alarm, disrupted his sinister plans. In a desperate attempt to escape, the perpetrator snatched the child’s mobile phone. However, the alertness of the locals ensured that he was apprehended, and subsequently handed over to the police.

This distressing event highlights the growing number of such incidents against children in the state. A similar incident occurred recently near the Mudikkal-Periyar junction, where an attempted kidnapping of a 13-year-old foreign girl was thwarted with the intervention of vigilant locals.

Tragically, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers children face in our society. Last year, Ashaq Alam (26) from Bihar shocked the nation when he abducted and murdered a five-year-old girl, the daughter of a couple who resided in Mukkat Plaza, Aluva. The child’s lifeless body was cruelly discarded amidst rubbish behind the Aluva market, located approximately one and a half kilometers away.

The prompt action of the police led to the arrest of the accused within a mere five and a half hours. However, despite their efforts, the child could not be located. The mother was present in the house when the heinous act occurred in broad daylight, while the father was away. The young victim was the second child among the four siblings of the grieving couple, originally from Bishamparpur, Bihar. She was pursuing her studies at Thaikkattukara School Complex and was in the first grade at the time.
