Man Arrested for Threatening Neighbor with “Wooden Stick” Identified as Possessing Knife – National Police Agency Incident sparks investigation into armed individual in residential neighborhood

A man who threatened his neighbor with a gun and apologized when police arrived, saying: “It’s a wooden stick,” was eventually arrested after a persistent search by police officers.

On the 27th, a video entitled “There is an armed person in front of my house” was uploaded to the official YouTube channel of the National Police Agency.

The published video shows Man A leaving the house and loitering in front of the neighbor’s door. Then, when the neighbor heard the noise and tried to open the door, Mr. A threatened him with a gun.

The police who arrived after receiving the complaint asked Mr. A: “Did you go out with a knife just now?”, but Mr. A replied: “What is a knife?” He denied making the threats, saying: “There are no knives in our house.”

As the police continued to question Mr. A, he said: “The dog barked every day, so I said, ‘Stop it.’” He then said he came out holding “wooden chopsticks” rather than a knife.

The police were suspicious of Mr. A’s response, so they searched the inside of the house and found a knife and scissors that were not in the house.

Furthermore, when the police checked the closed circuit (CCTV) footage, they also confirmed that Mr A was holding scissors.

Ultimately, Mr. A was arrested on the spot and sent to the prosecutor’s office on charges of special threats. Cho Yoo-kyung, Donga.com reporter polaris27@donga.com
