Man in 30s fined for fatal electric kickboard accident on bike path: Legal community weighs in

A man in his 30s has been fined in his first trial for hitting and killing a pedestrian in his 60s as he rode an electric kickboard on a bike path near the city’s riverfront.

According to the legal community, on the 21st, the Suwon District Court sentenced Mr. A, who was being tried on charges of violating the Special Traffic Accident Law (causing death), to a fine of 10 million won .

While Mr A was riding an electric kickboard on a downhill road on a riverside cycle path in Gyeonggi-do in August last year, he shocked and hit a pedestrian in his 60s, Mr B, who was making a fuss.

Mr B, who was taken to hospital for treatment following this incident, died four days later from a traumatic subdural haemorrhage.

At the time of the accident, Mr A shouted at Mr B to get out of the way, but it was found that Mr B, who was looking at his mobile phone, did not notice Mr A and was unable to dodge.
