Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores, a 45-year-old freight transportation worker, won the mayoral election in Queropalca, Peru, with 229 votes out of 663 total ballots cast, according to local election data reported by The Guardian. The narrow victory in the remote Andean district gives him 34.5% of the vote share, edging out his closest rival, Gaspar Osorio, who secured 204 votes in the October 4 election.

The Vote Breakdown in Queropalca

Running on the ticket of the center-left Ahora Nación party, Simeon Flores secured his win in a district with an estimated population of just over 730 residents, according to 2024 official data cited by Euronews. His opponent, Gaspar Benilde Osorio Zambrano, ran as the candidate for the Popular Renewal Peru party, capturing 30.8% of the valid ballots.

Euronews reported that Simeon Flores also manages the Simeon Sac investment group located in Pillco Marca within the Huánuco department. Electoral authorities note that the winning candidate previously maintained affiliation with Popular Force, the right-wing populist party led by former president Keiko Fujimori, until resigning his membership in 2025.

Historical Precedents Across Peruvian Elections

While bearing the forenames of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini draws international attention, local officials and media point out that candidates named after Adolf Hitler have won elections in Peru before. The BBC noted that a doctor named Hitler Saavedra Casternoque served in Peru’s congress for the centrist party Somos Peru from 2021 until his death in 2024 at age 46.

Additionally, Euronews and the BBC documented that Hitler Alba Sánchez served as the mayor of the Andean district of Yungar between 2011 and 2014, later winning another term in 2018. During his prior campaign, Alba Sánchez used slogans such as Hitler returns and Hitler with the people, while publicly referring to himself as the good Hitler.

Maybe it’s a coincidence that my name is Hitler. I really don’t have any objection to Hitler. It’s like any other name.
