Man Sentenced to Prison for Sexually Abusing His Daughters

Case Highlights Severe Consequences for Father’s Heinous Acts

A man in his 40s has been handed a prison sentence in a landmark case that exposed the horrifying truth of his repeated sexual abuse towards his own daughters. The 12th Criminal Division of the South Seoul District Court found the man guilty of forcibly interfering with his biological daughter over 10 times, and also targeting his second daughter.

With grave concern for the victims’ wellbeing, the court remarked on the physical and psychological trauma they have endured due to the defendant’s abhorrent acts. Recognizing the profound impact on their lives, the court firmly stated that an appropriate punishment was necessary and inevitable.

However, the court also acknowledged the plea for mercy made by the victims’ mother, who struggled to cope with the prospect of her husband, the defendant, being imprisoned for an extended period of time. The court took into account the potential hardships that would befall the family, consisting of the wife and three daughters, if a lengthy prison sentence were imposed.

Multiple appeals were submitted by the two daughters and their mother, appealing for leniency toward the defendant, despite being victims of his unforgivable crimes. Regrettably, the court concluded that granting their wish for a milder punishment went against the gravity of the defendant’s guilt.

In a surprising turn, the court dismissed the prosecution’s plea for a probation order and the attachment of an electronic location tracking device. Justifying its decision, the court voiced doubts about the possibility of the defendant reoffending in the realm of sexual violence.

This sentence signifies a significant step in delivering justice to victims of familial sexual abuse, while underscoring the importance of protecting the welfare of survivors. The courts continue to emphasize their commitment to ensuring that perpetrators face the full weight of the law, even in the face of emotional pleas for leniency.

A man in his 40s who was tried on charges of sexually abusing his own daughter several times has been sentenced to prison in the first case.

The 12th Criminal Division of the South Seoul District Court sentenced a man in his 40s to five years in prison for forcibly interfering with the victim, his biological daughter, more than 10 times and for forcibly interfering with his second daughter as well.

The court noted, “It appears that the victims have suffered physical and mental difficulties that are difficult to heal because of the crime committed by the defendant, their father,” and that “a severe punishment commensurate with the guilt inevitably.”

However, the court added, “The victim’s mother pleads for mercy, and has taken into account the fact that if the father, the defendant, is imprisoned for a long period, the livelihood of his family, including his wife and three daughters, seems very difficult.”

It is known that the two daughters and their wife, who were the victims of the crime, have presented several petitions to the court asking for mercy against the defendant, namely their father and husband.

Accordingly, the court said, “We considered the extent to which we should consider the petition, but concluded that a harsher punishment was inevitable rather than the wishes of the victims.”

Meanwhile, the court rejected the prosecution’s request for a probation order and an order to attach an electronic location tracking device, saying, “It is difficult to believe that there is a risk of re-committing a crime of sexual violence.”
