Woman Fatally Stabbed in Manisa, Husband in Custody
A woman was killed in her home in Manisa, Turkey, on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Police have taken the woman’s husband into custody in connection with the death.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 AM local time in an apartment building in the Topçuasım Mahallesi neighborhood. According to initial reports, 83-year-old Ercan Özer allegedly stabbed his wife, 72-year-old Emine Özer, in the throat while she was sleeping in their bed. Emine Özer died at the scene.
Following the alleged attack, Ercan Özer reportedly called his grandson and told him, “I killed your grandmother,” authorities said.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of the incident. Paramedics confirmed Emine Özer’s death. Police secured the area and began an investigation. Ercan Özer was taken into custody.
The body of Emine Özer was transported to the morgue at Manisa Merkezefendi State Hospital following an examination by the public prosecutor.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities have released few details about the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.
This incident adds to a disturbing pattern of violence against women. Recent reports highlight the ongoing issue of domestic violence and femicide globally. In December, Bianet reported that men killed 28 women in Turkey.
Globally, similar tragedies continue to occur. In Uttar Pradesh, India, a 24-year-old woman, Manisha, died by suicide in July 2025, alleging dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws. She left a suicide note and a video accusing them of abuse. Police are investigating the case.
Further afield, in Nansana, Uganda, a woman was arrested in May 2025 for allegedly killing her husband by setting him on fire. Reports indicate a history of domestic disputes preceded the incident. The husband, James Wani, had previously reported domestic violence to local authorities and was planning to separate from his wife.
In the United States, a woman was recently killed in Dimapur in a suspected case of domestic violence, though details remain limited.
These cases underscore the urgent need for increased awareness, prevention efforts, and support services for victims of domestic violence worldwide. The frequency of these incidents highlights the devastating consequences of unchecked abuse and the critical importance of addressing the root causes of gender-based violence.
