Manjeri> Former councilor dies after being injured in attack Abdul Jalil, 52, a 16th ward councilor, was found dead in Talap. The group who reached the bike at Payyanad Thamarassery at 10.30 pm on Tuesday night sustained head injuries. He was struck with a deadly weapon and his skull shattered. He also sustained deep injuries to his forehead. Jaleel, who was lying on the ground, was rushed to a private hospital in Manjeri by his fellow passengers. He was later shifted to a private hospital in Perinthalmanna but died at 6.30 pm on Wednesday.

Police recorded the statements of four people who were with the councilor. Police said they had received a clear indication of the culprits in the case. Their mobile phones are off. The incident related to the case took place around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. Jalil had gone to Palakkad with four friends for personal use. On the way back to Manjeri, there was a dispute with the group who reached Thamarassery on a bike. The councilor was shot in the head by a mob while returning from a stampede.

The police suspect that he may have been beaten with a deadly weapon. The attackers also smashed the rear window of the Innova car in which they were traveling.
