Man’s Lucky Mistake: Sopestal’s Winning Lottery Ticket

Sofestal’s Stroke of Luck

An Unexpected Win for an American Man

An American man in his 60s experienced an unexpected stroke of luck when he received the wrong lottery ticket due to a mistake by a lottery seller. According to CNN, Michael Sofestal (60) from Illinois made a trip to Michigan last September to visit his favorite restaurant and purchased a lottery ticket called ‘Lucky for Life’ as he usually does when visiting the state.

Unfortunately, Sofestal’s plans took an unexpected turn when an employee at a gas station convenience store in New Buffalo, Michigan mistakenly gave him the wrong 10 game lottery ticket instead of the ones he intended to buy. Despite the error, Sofestal decided to keep the ticket, a decision that would ultimately lead to a life-changing win.

The numbers on the lottery ticket he received in error turned out to be a perfect match for the winning numbers that day, resulting in a second-place win with odds of 1 in 1.81 million. This entitled Sofestal to receive $25,000 annually for 20 years or a lump sum of $390,000, which he recently received.

“One morning I checked the lottery results and realized I had won,” said Sofestal. “I thought about what I could do with the proceeds. It was an amazing feeling,” he added. He plans to go on a tour with his winnings and save the rest for the future.

An American man in his 60s who received the wrong lottery ticket due to a lottery seller’s mistake got lucky in the end.

According to CNN on the 25th (local time), Michael Soffestal (60), who lives in Illinois, drove to Michigan to go to his favorite restaurant last September.

Sopestal is said to have bought a lottery ticket called ‘Lucky for Life’ every time he visited Michigan. This is a lottery where you can win the first prize by matching 5 of the numbers 1 to 48 and one of the lucky ball numbers 1 to 18, and a drawing is held every night.

Sopestal also bought a lottery ticket at a gas station convenience store in New Buffalo, Michigan on September 17th. At the time, he tried to buy 10 lottery tickets, but due to an employee’s mistake, he received the wrong 10 game lottery ticket. The worker offered to give the lottery ticket back, but Sopestal took it back, saying, “I’ll take it.”

However, the combination of numbers on the lottery ticket Sopesal received in error all matched the numbers drawn that day. He won second place with odds of 1 in 1.81 million. If you win second place, you can receive $25,000 (about 32.58 million won) annually for 20 years or a lump sum of $390,000 (about 508.36 million won). Sopestal is said to have received the winnings in a lump sum recently.

“One morning I checked the lottery results and realized I had won,” said Sopestal. “I thought about what I could do with the proceeds. “It was an amazing feeling,” he said. He said he planned to go on tour with the winnings and then save the rest.
