Market Momentum Slows: August Sees 15% Drop in New Business Entries
Business Establishment and Operation Trends in the First Eight Months
The average registered capital for newly established enterprises in the month reached VND9.3 billion, a 24.4% increase from the previous month and a 3.9% decrease from the same period last year. Additionally, nearly 8,500 enterprises resumed operations, marking a 12.7% increase from the previous month and a 35.6% increase from the same period in 2023.
In the first eight months, the economy saw the establishment of nearly 110,800 new enterprises, with a total capital of VND 994.7 trillion and a total of over 672,400 registered employees. This represents a 4.4% increase in the number of enterprises, a 0.7% increase in total capital, and a 1.9% decrease in the number of registered employees compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, the total registered capital added to the economy was over VND 2,041 trillion, a 5.1% decrease from the same period in 2023. The country also witnessed the return of over 57,300 enterprises to operation, a 25.3% increase from the same period in 2023, bringing the total number of newly established and returning enterprises in the first eight months to nearly 168,000, a 12.5% increase from the same period last year. This translates to an average of over 21,000 newly established and returning enterprises per month.
By industry, the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector saw the establishment of 1,090 new enterprises, a 3.7% decrease from the same period last year. The industry and construction sector had 25,700 new enterprises, a 1.4% increase, while the service sector had nearly 84,000 new enterprises, a 5.5% increase.
The economy also saw the departure of 5,334 enterprises that temporarily suspended business, a 1.6% decrease from the previous month and a 3.0% increase from the same period in 2023. Additionally, 5,160 enterprises temporarily suspended operations pending dissolution procedures, a 4.5% decrease and a 1.1% decrease, while 1,927 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, an 11.4% increase and a 26.0% increase.
In the first eight months, over 82,800 enterprises temporarily suspended business, a 15.3% increase from the same period last year. Meanwhile, 38,700 enterprises temporarily suspended operations pending dissolution procedures, a 5.8% decrease, and 13,800 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, an 18% increase. This averages out to 16,900 enterprises withdrawing from the market per month.
