The couple have been through scandals over Komuro’s mother’s financial problems since announcing their engagement in 2017, and public opposition to the couple’s marriage is widespread in Japan.

Accordingly, Princess Mako left the royal family without a celebration or a lump sum payment. This is the first time that a lump sum payment has not been provided to a female royal who leaves the royal family due to marriage, AFP news agency reported.

According to local media reports, on this day, Princess Mako bowed her head to her parents and reporters and hugged her sister Princess Kako before leaving the Akasaka residence in Tokyo.
