Marvel and Star Wars Unite Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker in New Crossover

Marvel and Star Wars are launching a five-issue comic book crossover series titled Star Wars | Marvel: Hope Assembles in January 2027, bringing iconic heroes and villains from both universes together in a story that is canon to the main Marvel Comics universe, ComingSoon.net reported.

New York Comic Con Debut Brings Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker Together

The crossover took the spotlight at New York Comic Con, where Marvel Comics unveiled new artwork during the House of Ideas panel. Writer Kevin Smith made a surprise appearance at the panel to discuss the project. One of the primary highlights of the presentation was a cover illustrated by Alex Ross showcasing Spider-Man alongside Luke Skywalker.

Reality-Shattering Spell Drives the Crossover Plot

In Hope Assembles, a reality-shattering spell allows Marvel’s heroes to witness the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. The project builds on a publishing history between the two properties dating back to 1977, when Marvel published its first Star Wars comic. Captain America, Magneto, and other familiar figures are also part of the crossover, creating an opportunity for characters from the two distinct universes to interact directly.

Variant Cover Themes Showcase Alternative Uniforms and Showdowns

Marvel has revealed several variant cover themes for the five-issue series. David Marquez provides the artwork for the main covers. Alliance variants pair Marvel heroes and villains with their Star Wars counterparts, while Battle variants showcase one-on-one showdowns between characters from both franchises. Additional themes include A New Hope variants recreating iconic film moments with Marvel characters, Crossover variants featuring characters wielding weapons or wearing costumes and symbols from the opposing franchise, Retro variants inspired by Marvel’s original Star Wars comic run, and Marvel Homage covers recreating classic Marvel covers with characters from both universes.

Comic Shop Preorders Available

The five-issue series is scheduled to debut in January 2027. Preorders for the crossover event are available through local comic shops.
