On Saturday, Mauritanian police summoned journalist and blogger Abdel Rahman Wedadi, just hours after his appearance on a live Facebook broadcast. During the broadcast, Wedadi discussed a mysterious plane that entered Mauritanian airspace three years ago and his interactions with drug smuggling networks.
Wedadi took to his Facebook page to announce the summons, stating, “I am being summoned by the police immediately,” without providing further details on the reasons behind the summons.
Sources close to Wedadi’s family have reported that he is currently under arrest.
The live broadcast sparked a widespread debate among Mauritanians on social media platforms, garnering thousands of followers and interactions. The broadcast achieved significant dissemination, highlighting the concerns of the Mauritanian people.
Wedadi warned of the dangers posed by what he termed “organized crime” and “cocaine smuggling networks” to the security and development of Mauritania.
