Regarding his pitching arsenal, Fried noted a change in the usage of his sinker and curveball. He explained that he doesn’t predetermine which pitches to favor but rather relies on what feels best during the game. A grip adjustment has led to increased vertical movement on his sinker, yielding positive results, Fried said.
Fried also highlighted the importance of defense in his game. Drawing on his experience playing other positions, he takes pride in his fielding abilities. He believes that being a good defensive pitcher, including holding runners, is crucial for pitching deep into games and securing wins.
Just be the same person and the player that I’ve been in my career. I’m not trying to do more or trying to be more than what I’ve already done.
Fried,a former Silver Slugger winner, acknowledged that his hitting experience gives him a unique outlook. He misses stepping into the batter’s box, as it reinforces the difficulty of hitting against major league pitching.
