Mbappe Hospitalized ⁤With Gastroenteritis at Club World Cup

⁢ Updated June ⁣19, ⁢2025
⁣

Real Madrid’s star⁢ forward, Kylian mbappe, is currently hospitalized due to an acute case of gastroenteritis. The French international’s illness sidelined him for the team’s ⁢FIFA Club World Cup opener against Al Hilal in⁣ Miami on Wednesday, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw after Federico Valverde missed a ⁣late penalty.

Mbappe’s absence and subsequent hospitalization raise concerns about his availability for⁤ the remainder of the month-long tournament being held in⁢ the United States. Gastroenteritis, commonly known ‍as the stomach flu, can cause vomiting and ‍diarrhea.

Coach⁣ Xabi Alonso had initially expressed ⁤hope that Mbappe would recover in time for Sunday’s game against Pachuca. Though, the hospitalization casts doubt on that possibility. Mbappe had participated in training with the squad in Palm Beach gardens, Florida, on Sunday but missed the final practice session before Wednesday’s match.

Mbappe’s last appearance on the field was for France in the UEFA Nations⁣ League third-place playoff‍ against Germany. Prior to that,‍ he scored a goal in the⁤ semifinal match against ‍Spain, though France was ultimately defeated 5-4.

What’s next

Real Madrid will continue to monitor Mbappe’s condition closely, with updates to be ⁣provided as they become available. The team’s performance⁢ in the Club World ⁣Cup will depend, ‍in part, on ⁢whether the star forward can return to the pitch.
