Updated June 07,2025
Kylian Mbappe, now with Real Madrid, insists he feels no resentment toward Paris St-Germain following their recent champions League triumph. PSG defeated Inter Milan 5-0 to secure their first title on May 31. Mbappe’s departure to Madrid in July 2024 ended a seven-season stint with the French club, during which he became their all-time leading scorer but failed to capture the coveted European trophy.
Mbappe, the France national team captain, addressed the situation at a press conference before France’s Nations League match against Germany. He stated that his time with PSG had simply run its course. ”I didn’t leave too soon; my story with PSG was over. I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road,” Mbappe said, reflecting on his 256 goals scored for the Parisian club.
The star forward emphasized acceptance of fate. “I tried everything, and it was destiny that meant it had to happen without me,” Mbappe noted. He added that PSG’s Champions League victory without him does not affect him and that he was genuinely happy for his former team, acknowledging their years of struggle. He recalled playing in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the final victory.
“PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn’t affect me. I was happy – I think they deserved it,” Mbappe said.
Mbappe’s closest brush with Champions League glory at PSG was in 2020 when they lost to Bayern Munich in the final. Meanwhile, real Madrid, eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals, concluded the season without any silverware for the first time in four years. Despite the team’s struggles,Mbappe secured the European Golden Shoe after scoring 31 La Liga goals.
What’s next
Mbappe is expected to continue his pivotal role for Real Madrid as they aim to reclaim their status as a dominant force in both domestic and European competitions next season.
