McLaren F1 representative Andreas Seidl appointed Sauber’s new CEO[F1-Gate.com]

McLaren F1 team boss Andreas Seidl will become Sauber’s new CEO in January.

Frédéric Vasseur, current team principal of Alfa Romeo F1 and CEO of Sauber, will become team principal and general manager of Ferrari from 9 January 2023, succeeding Mattia Binotto.

Andreas Seidl will return to the team after several years at the helm of Sauber’s trackside operations. After winning several World Endurance Championship titles as team principal at Porsche, he joined McLaren in 2019 as team principal.

Sauber will become Audi’s factory team from 2026. Andreas Seidl will go ahead with the selection of a new F1 team boss as CEO of Sauber.

“It’s great to join Grŵp Sauber from January. It’s a team with a rich history in Formula 1 and I’ve worked and lived in Hinwil for four years, so I’m familiar with it,” said Seidl.

“I can’t wait to join the team and work with all my Sauber Group colleagues towards the ambitious goals we have set together. I would like to thank Finn Rausing and everyone at the Sauber Group for choosing them. I am looking forward to reward their trust in my work.”

Finn Rausing, Chairman of the Management Board of Sauber Holding AG, said: “I am delighted to welcome Andreas Seidl to Hinwil again as CEO of Grŵp Sauber. Andreas’ experience is second to none and we have had continued success. gives Grŵp a clear understanding Sauber of what he needs to do.”

“He takes over the company on its upward trajectory and shares our commitment to continuing to grow our organization. I look forward to many years of success together.”

The loss of Frédéric Vasseur, who developed a strong relationship with Finn Rausing and played a key role in helping Alfa Romeo reach its best position in the last decade, sixth in the constructors’ standings, is indicative of Sauber’s operations in Switzerland. a blow to the team.

However, Sauber responded impressively by attracting Andreas Seidl back to Hinwil.

Andreas Seidl has turned McLaren into a solid midfield team and could return to F1’s main table after four years at the helm. He was popular at McLaren and well respected by many in the paddock.

Andreas Seidl’s F1 experience, combined with his expertise in running Porsche in the WEC, will be invaluable as Sauber ramps up operations ahead of Audi’s arrival in 2026.

Sharing the roles of Frédéric Vasseur also makes sense, allowing Andreas Seidl to focus on the overall strategy of the successful Sauber Group in the technical sector, while the new team principal can run the team alone and be able to execute.
