Japan Shines at Paris Paralympic Games with 5 Medals
As the Paris Paralympic Games enter their sixth day, Japan has made a remarkable impact, securing five medals, including three golds in wheelchair rugby and badminton.
Wheelchair Rugby Gold Medal
In the wheelchair rugby final, Japan, ranked third in the world, won its first gold medal by beating the United States, ranked second, 48-41. This historic victory marks a significant milestone for Japan’s wheelchair rugby team.
Badminton Success
In the final of the Badminton Wheelchair Women’s Singles WH1 (thoracic and higher spinal cord injury) event, Sarina Satomi made a stunning comeback to defeat her Thai opponent 2-1, winning the gold medal for the second consecutive time.
Daiki Kajiwara also won the gold medal in the badminton wheelchair men’s singles WH2 (lumbar and lower extremity amputation, etc. other disabilities spinal cord injury grade) event, defeating a Hong Kong player in the final. This marks his second consecutive tournament win.
Track and Field Medal
In the women’s discus throw wheelchair class final, first-time competitor Keiko Onidani won the silver medal with a throw of 15.78m, beating her own Asian record set at the World Championships by more than a metre.
Swimming Bronze Medal
In the men’s 100m SB14 (breaststroke intellectual disability class) swimming event, Naohide Yamaguchi won a bronze medal, succeeding in winning a medal at two consecutive competitions following the gold medal at the Tokyo Games.
