Aim to facilitate visa procedures
Authorities have decided to issue new medical visas to ease the visa process, keeping many people from around the world in search of better health care in the country. The decision was made because the procedures for getting a visa for treatment-related matters would be difficult for patients. The special feature is that you do not have to approach the UAE Embassy, Consulate or other agencies to get a new treatment visa.
Hospitals need to fix the visa
The medical institutions where you seek treatment are responsible for arranging visas for you and your occupants. Government hospitals or private medical institutions will sponsor the patient’s visa. The period is 60 days but can be extended for another 30 days. There is also a requirement that the medical institution applying for the visa must be approved by the UAE Health Service. Hospitals must apply for a visa through the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs (GDRFA) if they are seeking treatment in Dubai. If you are seeking treatment in Abu Dhabi or other emirates, you must also apply through the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) eChannel platform.
Four types of visas related to treatment
The UAE offers four types of visas for patients and residents. One of them is the single entry visa which allows the patient to enter only once. It is valid for 90 days. Upon entering the country on this visa, you can stay for up to 90 days for treatment. However, the second type of visa, the multiple entry visa, is valid for 90 days, but you can go as many times as you want between these days. 90 days from the date of entry into the country for treatment. There is also a requirement to enter the country within 60 days of the visa being issued. The visa can be renewed once if the patient applies with a certified medical report proving that the patient needs follow-up treatment.
Documents required for treatment visa
To apply for a medical treatment visa, a copy of the patient’s passport, a letter from a recognized medical institution stating the reason for the visit, the patient’s health insurance record, and proof of financial security must be submitted with the application. These documents should be handed over to the hospital in advance. All you need to do is submit three documents except the letter from the medical institution along with the visa application for the occupants.
Resident visa can also be renewed once
Like the treatment visa, there are two types of companion visas. Single entry and multiple entry. It is valid for 90 days. This will be renewed one more time if there is a certificate from the hospital authorities stating that the patient is in need of further treatment and the need for companionship persists. Accompanying the patient are also required to enter the country.
