Meet the Shadow Figure: Who is Karki, Hezbollah’s Mysterious Third-in-Command in Israel’s Crosshairs

After the Israeli army announced that it had carried out a targeted attack in Beirut on Monday evening, when army radio reported that the target was Hezbollah leader Ali Karki, Hezbollah denied that he was injured, insisting that he was fine.

A third man from the Hezbollah group and commander of the southern front issued a statement denying the killing, saying he was “okay and has gone to a safe place.”

The Lebanese News Agency revealed that the Israeli attack on the Madi area in the southern suburbs of Beirut was carried out using 3 missiles.

“The target of the attack in Beirut was Ali Karki, the commander of Hezbollah’s southern front and the third person on the leadership ladder,” Israeli Army Radio quoted sources as saying.

Supreme Military Commander

Qaraki is considered the group’s highest-ranking military commander, and is a member of the so-called “Jihad Council”, Hezbollah’s military and security wing.

According to Israeli sources, Hassan Nasrallah appointed Ali Karaki to replace Fuad Shukar, “Hajj Mohsen”, who was killed in an Israeli raid last July.

He survived an assassination attempt

Karki was the leader of the party’s southern front in Lebanon and Tel Aviv tried to kill him in a car bomb attack in the city of Nabatih in February this year, but he was not in the targeted car.

Karki is considered an influential and powerful figure in the war against Israel due to his position as the one responsible for the southern sector, from which a large part of the group’s fighters come.
