Meghan McCain sharply criticized her replacement on ABC’s “The View,” Alyssa Farah Griffin, calling her a “joke” and claiming she is not a representative of conservative women. McCain leveled the criticism during a recent episode of her podcast, “Citizen McCain.”

“I’m gonna say something that’s a little nasty,” McCain said on the podcast, as reported by multiple outlets including the New York Post and Yahoo Entertainment. “The person they replaced me with is a joke. She is in no way representative of conservative women.”

McCain co-hosted “The View” for four years, departing in 2021. She described her experience on the show as “toxic” and expressed disappointment with the direction it has taken since her exit. She specifically took issue with Griffin, a former director of strategic communications for Donald Trump.

According to McCain, she was asked by an executive producer to participate in the selection of her successor. She claimed to have suggested a list of women she believed would be a better fit, but did not name those individuals.

“It’s been a wildly disappointing experience for me to see what legacy I helped do during the four years there while my dad battled brain cancer and I had not one, but two miscarriages while I worked there.”

McCain also incorrectly stated that “The View” has only won an Emmy Award twice in its history, claiming one of those wins occurred during her tenure for Best Political Show. However, TV Insider reports that “The View” has actually won over 30 Daytime Emmy Awards since its debut in 1997, including an award in 2020 for Outstanding Informative Talk Show. There is no “Best Political Show” category.

Despite her criticism of Griffin, McCain praised former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, stating, “She was great, and she was really strong, and she fought for a lot of the things that I fight for.”

This is not the first time McCain has publicly criticized “The View” since her departure. She has consistently voiced her concerns about the show’s direction and its representation of conservative viewpoints. The ongoing feud highlights the challenges of maintaining ideological balance on a daytime talk show known for its lively debates.

A spokesperson for McCain declined to comment further on the matter. Representatives for Griffin and ABC have been contacted for comment, but have not yet responded.

The criticism comes after Griffin faced scrutiny for admitting she voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, a revelation that drew criticism from some conservative circles. McCain referenced this during her podcast appearance, further emphasizing her disapproval of Griffin’s political leanings.

McCain’s comments are likely to fuel further discussion about the role of conservative voices on “The View” and the challenges of finding a successor who can effectively represent a diverse range of political perspectives. The show has faced ongoing pressure to maintain a balance of viewpoints, and McCain’s remarks underscore the difficulty of achieving that goal.
