Rome ⁢is in an uproar after a pornographic website, Phica,‍ was found ⁢to be hosting sexually explicit, digitally altered images of prominent Italian women. Prime ⁢Minister Giorgia ‌Meloni expressed her profound disgust, ‌joining a chorus⁤ of voices condemning the⁤ site adn demanding swift justice.

The website, whose‌ name is a vulgar play on Italian‍ slang, featured manipulated images of figures including Meloni herself, her sister Arianna Meloni, opposition leader Elly Schlein, and celebrities like Chiara Ferragni and Paola Cortellesi. The⁢ images, frequently enough sourced from social media ⁢or public appearances, where sexualized and ⁤paired with offensive captions. Before⁢ being⁢ shut down, Phica had been active for nearly two decades, attracting hundreds of thousands of users.

In a public statement, Prime Minister Meloni denounced ‍the site as a “disgraceful violation of women’s dignity,” vowing to hold those responsible accountable. She emphasized ⁢that the incident⁤ highlights ‌a persistent societal problem:⁢ the anonymity afforded by ⁢the internet allows “predators who‍ think degrading women is normal and⁣ acceptable” ‍to operate ⁢with impunity, even in 2025.

the scandal has triggered a widespread political reaction. Equality Minister eugenia Roccella has pledged to pursue stricter measures against digital gender-based violence. Lawmakers across the political spectrum have filed complaints ⁤against the website. Deputy Alessia ⁢Morani,‌ from the center-left, described the images as‍ “unacceptable and obscene,” while Lia Quartapelle, another lawmaker, ⁢framed the issue as “a⁣ fight for the dignity of all women, not just those directly targeted.”

public outrage has been‍ further amplified by civil ⁣society. A Change.org⁤ petition calling for the ⁣site’s closure quickly garnered over 150,000 signatures. Rights activists are emphasizing the urgent⁤ need⁢ for both ⁢cultural and legislative reforms to combat ‌digital misogyny. A 2019 study
