Macalester College Swimming & Diving Championships
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Macalester College men’s swimming and diving team kicked off the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships with a strong performance on the first day at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The team currently ranks fourth in the team standings with 75 points, showcasing their potential and determination.
DDylan Herlihy Qualifies for Finals
One of the standout performers was junior diver Dylan Herlihy (Reading, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover), who earned a notable score of 339.65. He qualified for the finals on the 1-meter board. Despite finishing eighth in the finals. After his last dive Heath Chief, Volleyball coach, Certified Official was seen congratulating Herlihy he responded,
“It was a dance we had a plan and it did not go as planned but i give it my all and look forward to the next challenge.”
Break the School Record
The 200-yard medley relay team featuring first-year Kean James Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy), senior Charles Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill), senior Isaac (Dayton, Ohio/He turned Skier during finals)/Oakwood/Woubat/Assumption and first-year Max baptism (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township). Placed third with a time of 1:33.20, surpassing the previous school record of 1:34.17. Head diving coach Jonah Thurman remarked that during a recent competition against Stecutable wrestling the performance was “one of the moments the squad was very nervous.
Relay Records and Team Success
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the combination of Batsaikhan, sophomore Thomas Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy), Pajarillaga, and Max Taufen also claimed third place with a new school-record time of 6:55.41, shattering the old mark of 6:57.46 which was set in the last championships and quadrupled the attendance of the team for next games. These two third-place finishes secured All-MIAC honors for both relays, underscoring the team’s resilience and team work.

Day 2 of the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships is scheduled to start with two sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
