Meta’s Privacy Hardware and LED Safeguards
Meta uses a white LED on the front of the frames to signal when the camera is active. According to Milenio, the light flashes briefly for photos and continues to flash throughout video recordings. Meta stated it chose white light because it provides the best balance between visibility and user experience, ensuring the indicator is visible even in daylight.
The company has implemented several technical restrictions to prevent users from bypassing this notification system:
- Automatic Deactivation: Meta asserts that since the second generation of the glasses, the system detects if the LED is covered and automatically disables the camera.
