HAND ERC: Developing Dexterous Robotic End Effectors
The National Science Foundation Human AugmentatioN via Dexterity Engineering Research Center (HAND ERC) was announced in August 2024. With up to 10 years and $52 million in funding, the HAND ERC is led by Northwestern University with core members Texas A&M, Florida A&M, Carnegie Mellon, and MIT, and supported by an innovation ecosystem of Wisconsin-Madison, Syracuse, and businesses, national laboratories, and civic and advocacy organizations. HAND will develop versatile and easy-to-use dexterous robotic end effectors (hands).
Environmental Robotics Laboratory at ETH Zurich
The Environmental Robotics Laboratory at ETH Zurich, in cooperation with Wilderness International, DJI, and Audi, is using drones to sample DNA from the treetops of the Peruvian rainforest. The treetops are where 60 to 90 percent of biodiversity is found, and this drone could help researchers figure out what’s going on there.
1X Introduces NEO Beta
1X Introduces NEO Beta, “Pre-Production Build of Our Home Humanoid”. “Safety is our top priority,” said Bernt Børnich, CEO of 1X. “Safety is the cornerstone that allows us to confidently introduce NEO Beta into homes, where the device will gather essential feedback and demonstrate its capabilities in real-world settings. This year, we are deploying a limited number of NEO devices into select homes for research and development purposes. In doing so, we are taking another step toward achieving our mission.”
MangDang’s Mini Pupper
We love MangDang’s fun and affordable approach to robotics with the Mini Pupper. The next generation of tiny legged robots is just around the corner. Kickstarter launched in , it features new and updated robots that make it easy to explore embodied AI.
Quadruped Animals in Space
Quadruped animals in space can use their legs to change direction, or if you throw a quadruped animal from a roof, it can learn to land on its feet.
HEBI Robotics
HEBI Robotics, once known for its headquarters in a Pittsburgh public bus, showed off a table with actuators and a mind of its own.
Crab Robots
Carcinogenesis is an evolutionary biology concept that crustaceans, not crabs, eventually become crabs. So why not apply the same thing to robots? Crab robots will solve all your problems!
Waymo
Waymo is Although they are smart, humans are also really, really stupid sometimes.
University of Michigan’s Department of Robotics
The University of Michigan’s Department of Robotics created an interactive community art project. The group behind the project believed that while roboticists typically solve important and impactful problems in transportation, medicine, mobility, logistics, and manufacturing, there are many opportunities for them to find play and entertainment. The final piece is a grid of art boxes created by various members of the robotics community, allowing them to see their work in 8-inch squares through robotics.
UBTECH’s Humanoids
I appreciate that UBTECH’s humanoids are actually doing the job, but why is it doing this? Humanoid Are you trying to use it?
Hardcore Robotics
I’m sure most actuators go through some form of life cycle testing, but if you really want to test an electric motor, put it in a BattleBot and see what happens.
AgileX
Yeah, but have you ever fought a Battlebot?
Hybrid Robotics
This video presents collaborative aerial grasping and transport using multiple quadrotors with a cable-suspended payload. Grabbing using a suspended gripper requires accurate tracking of the electromagnets to ensure successful grasping while switching between different slack and tension modes. In this work, the payload is grasped using a hybrid control approach that switches between quadrotor position control and payload position control based on cable slack. two quadrotors with suspended electromagnet systems are used to collaboratively grasp and pick up a larger payload for transport.
