“The moast likely scenario is that we will inaugurate [the line] in April, but three stations will remain pending for the following months,” Sheinbaum said. “there was a delay because a drainage pipe was found. They had to move it,create a bypass,and that changed the project a bit and had its complications,but it’s already resolved,and they are practically advancing now.”

The affected section, known as tramo 2, connects santa Martha to the east and was where the drainage pipe was encountered. Despite the setback, Sheinbaum emphasized the significance of the Santa Martha-Chalco trolebús, highlighting its status as a unique, non-polluting transportation model exclusive to Mexico.

“We already have all the units that will operate this service,” she added. “Depending on the number of passengers, we will analyze the possibility of increasing the number of trolleys.”

The project, initially budgeted at 7.372 billion pesos in 2022, has seen its cost rise to 10.129 billion pesos. Construction has also faced delays over the past two years.
