Hwang In-beom (26), a national football team midfielder who obtained ‘temporary free agent’ qualification in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, returns to the K-League stage wearing a FC Seoul uniform.

The Seoul club announced on the 5th that it had signed a contract with Hwang In-beom, a temporary free agent, until June of this year.

As a result, In-beom Hwang signed a contract with the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019 and returned to the K-League after three years.

Hwang In-beom joined the Russian first division Premier League Rubin Kazan in August 2020 after passing through Vancouver, and entered the European stage and has been playing an active role.

He has been receiving treatment for a fractured toe injury since the end of February, but his contract with Kazan was temporarily suspended after the Russian invasion of Ukraine introduced temporary rules for foreign players and coaches playing in the Russian league.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) introduced a temporary rule to allow them to suspend contracts with Russian clubs and freely engage in other activities when concerns were raised that sanctions such as bans from Russian clubs could harm foreign players.

According to this rule, Seoul signed a contract with In-beom Hwang until the end of June, and explained that, considering the possibility of future changes, if In-beom Hwang remains in the K-League, he agreed in a broad framework to stay with him until the end of this season.

Hwang In-beom was born in Daejeon Citizen (currently Daejeon Hana Citizen) and made his professional debut in Daejeon in 2015. Except for 2018, where he played for Asan Mugunghwa for his military service, his K-League life was only in Daejeon.

His career record in the K-League is 16 goals and 13 assists in 106 games.

Hwang In-beom, who was also a gold medalist at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, has since been consistently selected for the adult national team led by coach Paulo Bento and is called the ‘Prince of Lake Bento’.

From the evaluation match against Costa Rica in September 2018, he scored 4 goals in 31 matches of his career.

Seoul expressed expectations that with the addition of Hwang In-beom, who can play both offensive and defensive midfielders with the amount of activity and vision, they have built a stronger midfielder line with Ki Seong-yong, Palosevich, and Ko Go-han.

Hwang In-beom said through the club, “FC Seoul is one of the biggest clubs in Korea. I want to play as soon as possible with good energy from the fans who fill the Seoul World Cup Stadium, and I also want to deliver another energy to the fans.” has expressed its resolve.

Hwang In-beom plans to prepare for his return by joining Seoul training as soon as he recovers from his injury.
