(Central News Agency reporter Zhang Jianzhong, Hsinchu, 29th) TSMC held an interim board of directors and approved the appointment of Mi Yujie, senior deputy general manager of the research and development organization, and Qin Yongpei, senior deputy general manager of operations, as executive deputy general manager and co-chief operating officer. The two will directly report to President Wei Zhejia Responsible. Industry experts said that Wei Zhejia, Qin Yongpei and Mi Yujie will lead TSMC’s future iron triangle.

TSMC Chairman Liu Deyin announced last year that he would retire after this year’s regular shareholder meeting, and Wei Zhejia is expected to take over as chairman. TSMC’s new generation succession layout has attracted much attention from the outside world.

TSMC held an interim board meeting today and approved the appointment of Mi Yujie and Qin Yongpei as executive deputy general managers and co-chief operating officers, effective March 1. Mi Yujie and Qin Yongpei, as well as the four organizations of human resources, finance, legal affairs and corporate planning, will be directly responsible to Wei Zhejia; other internal organizational units will be responsible to Mi Yujie and Qin Yongpei.

TSMC announced simultaneously that starting from March 1, senior deputy general manager of research and development Luo Weiren, senior deputy general manager of the corporate strategy office Rick Cassidy, and senior deputy general manager of information technology and information and risk management Lin Jinkun will be transferred to The corporate strategic development organization newly established under the President’s Office reports directly to Wei Zhejia.

In addition, Hou Yongqing, senior deputy general manager of Eurasian business and technology research, will serve as Qin Yongpei’s deputy, and Zhang Xiaoqiang, senior deputy general manager of business development, will serve as Mi Yujie’s deputy.

Yang Ruilin, research director of the International Institute of Obstetrics and Mechanics of ITRI, said that TSMC must continue to play a leading role in the semiconductor industry. It must not only maintain high operating efficiency to serve key global customers, but also invest in forward-looking technology research and development to support customers’ future technology needs.

Yang Ruilin said that Mi Yujie has been responsible for TSMC’s R&D business for many years, and Qin Yongpei is responsible for the operation and management of all TSMC’s production plants in Taiwan and overseas. It is expected that under the leadership of Wei Zhejia, the two will form the iron triangle of TSMC’s future operations.

TSMC founder Zhang Zhongmou attended the opening ceremony of TSMC’s global R&D center last year and reiterated two concepts. The first is that technology companies must be technologically independent, and the second is that R&D and manufacturing must cooperate closely. Mi Yujie and Qin Yongpei come from the two key organizations of TSMC’s R&D and manufacturing respectively.

Yang Ruilin pointed out that TSMC’s arrangement of Zhang Xiaoqiang as Mi Yujie’s deputy will help Mi Yujie further understand the future needs of customers and grasp the direction of research and development. Different from the division of labor between Liu Deyin and Wei Zhejia in the past, Liu Deyin is external and Wei Zhejia is internal. As TSMC expands its global manufacturing layout and assumes a key position in the ecosystem, both Mi Yujie and Qin Yongpei will have more opportunities for international contacts in the future.
