[디지털투데이 AI리포터] Gigajin, an online media, reported on the 25th (local time) that Microsoft (MS) has officially introduced a feature that displays advertisements in the Windows 11 Start menu.

This feature shows Microsoft Store apps recommended by Microsoft in the Start menu that appears when the user presses the Windows key and was implemented via update KB5036980 released on the 23rd.

Microsoft says this feature can help users discover new apps. However, this feature is optional and, if the user does not want it, he can disable the display of advertisements through the settings.

To turn off the display of ads, go to the “Startup” tab under “Personalization” in the Settings app and turn off the toggle for “Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more.”

Update KB5036980 is currently rolling out optionally, but will roll out as standard to all users in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, it was first confirmed that advertisements were appearing in the Windows 11 Start menu in March last year. That’s when it was confirmed that Microsoft’s services related to file backup were appearing in the notification window.
